Under Construction
In order to make the exchanges implicit in the many different contributions to the Hyper-Polarization Discussion easier to follow, we will be building a continually expanding series of "Discussion Topic" pages focused on specific aspects of the hyper- polarization problem. Some of the exchanges, like the one exploring the relationship between Oppression, Justice, Advocacy, Neutrality, and Peacebuilding are built around a series of essays in which discussion participants with differing views present and respond to one another's arguments. In other cases, participants independently offer their views on the key questions that we raised in framing the discussion.
Currently available topic pages include:
-
On Oppression, Justice, Advocacy, Neutrality, and Peacebuilding — A friendly debate between Guy Burgess and Heidi Burgess and Bernie Mayer and Jackie Font-Guzmán over different strategies for limiting power-over, oppressive aspects of society — a debate that explores the tension between progressive advocacy, neutrality, and peacebuilding.
-
The Hyper-Polarization Threat, How Serious Is It Really? — A compilation of posts that, for many different perspectives, explain why we need to balance our partisan advocacy efforts with efforts to address the hyper-polarization problem.
-
If It Has Been Done, It Must Be Possible — Successful Efforts to Solve Problems Across Political Divides — It's easy to fall into the trap of concluding that it has become impossible to find mutually-beneficial ways of addressing common problems. This topic focuses on discussion contributors who explain why and how this is not the case.
-
Strategies for Effectively Dealing with Scale and Complexity — Articles explaining how small group insights into strategies for dealing with conflict more constructively can be adapted to the scale and complexity of modern society.
Additional topics and content will be added as the hyper-polarization discussion proceeds.
